September 14, 2022 Organization of the 9th Global 5G Event

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will organize the 9th Global 5G Event as part of activities to popularize and deploy the fifth-generation mobile communications system (5G) following the launch of commercial 5G services, and to further upgrade 5G.

1. Background and Objectives

5G is a new mobile communications system characterized by high speed and high capacity, ultra-low latency, and massive Machine Type Communications. Commercial 5G services were launched in Japan in March 2020. In parallel with the deployment of 5G, the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) is considering the upgrading of 5G.
As part of activities to popularize and deploy 5G and to further upgrade the standard, MIC will hold the 9th Global 5G Event on Tuesday, September 20 and Wednesday, September 21, bringing together representatives of 5G promotion organizations and supervisory authorities from seven countries and regions: Japan, the U.S., Europe, Brazil, China, South Korea, and India.

The 9th Global 5G Event
Dates: Tuesday, September 20 and Wednesday, September 21, 2022
Venue: Hotel New Otani and online
Organizer: MIC
Co-organizer: The Fifth Generation Mobile Communications Promotion Forum (5GMF)
Participation: Sessions may be viewed after registering at the 9th Global 5G Event website
Outline: The event will feature lectures and panel discussions about 5G commercialization initiatives in each country and region, along with expectations and prospects for future services.
