January 16, 2023 Receipt of Serious Accident Report from NTT Docomo Inc.

Today (January 16, 2023), the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) received a serious accident report from NTT Docomo, Inc. (headed by II Motoyuki, President and Chief Executive Officer). This report was made under Article 28 of the Telecommunications Business Act (Act No. 86 of 1984) concerning communications failures in mobile phone services on Saturday, December 17 and Tuesday, December 20, 2022.

1. Background

On Saturday, December 17 and Tuesday, December 20, 2022, NTT Docomo, Inc. experienced communications failures with its mobile phone services.
Today, the company submitted to MIC a serious incident report on the circumstances, cause, recurrence prevention measures, and other matters concerning the two failures, based on Article 28 of the Telecommunications Business Act.

2. Future plans

MIC will examine the contents of the report and consider necessary measures.
