On Tuesday, January 17, 2023, Mr. MATSUMOTO Takeaki, Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, held talks with Honorable Jessica ROSENWORCEL, Chairwoman of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission. During these talks, they agreed to promoting cooperation in such areas as broadband policy and the resilient telecommunications networks.

Outcome of the talks with Chairwoman ROSENWORCEL

On Tuesday, January 17, 2023 (U.S. local time), Minister MATSUMOTO held talks with Chairwoman ROSENWORCEL, during which they exchanged opinions about important policy issues in the information and telecommunications field. Among the issues on which they exchanged opinions were future-focused broadband policy issues, including the development of non-terrestrial networks (NTN), such as high altitude platform stations (HAPS) and satellite communications, and also the installation and maintenance of optical fiber. Both sides agreed to cooperating closely, including information sharing on practical and technical aspects.
They also agreed to working closely together on the resilient telecommunications networks of 5G, Beyond 5G (6G), etc.
