October 31, 2023 Study Group on How to Ensure Soundness of Information Distribution in Digital Space

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has decided to organize a Study Group on How to Ensure Soundness of Information Distribution in Digital Space to discuss future policies and concrete measures to ensure the soundness of information distribution in digital space.

1. Purpose

With the emergence of new technologies and services, such as generative AI and the metaverse, the digital space is continually expanding and deepening. As the variety of stakeholders in this realm grows and new challenges emerge that impact the physical world, MIC has decided to convene the Study Group on How to Ensure Soundness of Information Distribution in Digital Space. This group aims to analyze the current responses to these challenges from an ever-diversifying group of stakeholders and to discuss future policies and concrete strategies for maintaining the integrity of information dissemination within the digital environment.

2. Matters for consideration

(1) Status of diffusion of services utilizing digital space and progress in information and communications technology, etc.
(2) New issues and the status of response by each stakeholder
(3) Basic approach to future actions
(4) Specific measures to ensure the soundness of information distribution in the digital space
(5) Others

4. Schedule

The inaugural meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 7, 2023, with subsequent sessions to follow in sequence.
