December 11, 2023 Outcomes of Bilateral Meeting between Mr. Suzuki Junji, Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, and Mr. Adolfo Urso, Minister for Italian Enterprise and Made in Italy (Towards the Handover to Italy of the Next G7 Presidency)

On Monday, December 11, 2023, Mr. Suzuki Junji, Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, held bilateral meeting with Mr. Adolfo Urso, Minister for Italian Enterprise and Made in Italy, in preparation for the G7 presidency handover. They confirmed the further advancement of the Hiroshima AI Process under next year’s Italian G7 presidency , which Japan has led as the G7 president this year.

Outcomes of the Meeting with Minister Urso

On Monday, December 11, 2023, Minister Suzuki had the meeting with Minister Urso (accompanied by Mr. KOMORI Takuo, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications).

During the meeting, they exchanged views on the achievements of this year’s G7 digital and technology track, led by Japan as G7 president, including the Hiroshima AI Process, and on the topics to be addressed further under next year’s Italian G7 presidency.

They also confirmed that G7 countries will continue discussions on AI and further promote the Hiroshima AI Process under the Italian G7 Presidency next year, based on the Work Plan to advance Hiroshima AI Process, which was included in the “Hiroshima AI Process G7 Digital &Tech Ministers’ Statement,” compiled in December of this year.

Since the launch of the Hiroshima AI Process for the formation of international rules on generative AI as a result of the G7 Hiroshima Summit in May of this year, the G7 countries, which share the values of freedom and democracy, have united, and Japan has led the discussions. As a result, the G7 Digital & Tech Ministerial Meeting, which was held this December, adopted the “Hiroshima AI Process G7 Digital &Tech Ministers’ Statement,” which includes the Hiroshima AI Process Comprehensive Policy Framework and Work Plan to advance the Hiroshima AI Process.
