February 15, 2023 16th New Business Strategy Seminar for the Beyond 5G Era

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will hold the 16th New Business Strategy Seminar for the Beyond 5G Era on March 15. At the seminar, younger corporate talent with the potential to become executives in the 2030s, who were involved in the FY2022 Leaders' Forum, will present their medium- to long-term political and management vision for Japan based on backcasting from the Beyond 5G era, regarding which they have undertaken deliberations that transcend corporate boundaries.

1. Purpose

Launched by MIC in December 2020, the Beyond 5G New Business Strategy Center (co-headed by MORIKAWA Hiroyuki, Professor, Graduate School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo, and YANAGAWA Noriyuki, Professor, Graduate School of Economics, the University of Tokyo) works with the Beyond 5G Promotion Consortium and relevant ministries, agencies, and organizations to strategically promote intellectual property acquisition and international standardization related to Beyond 5G.

As part of its initiatives, the Center will hold the 16th New Business Strategy Seminar for the Beyond 5G Era under the theme of "Briefing on Outcomes of the Leaders' Forum 2023: Proposals from New Leaders for the 2030s" to provide information about the latest intellectual property and standardization trends and business strategies, with the aim of promoting intellectual property and international standardization strategy.

Content: In FY2021, the Beyond 5G New Business Strategy Center launched the Leaders' Forum to cultivate personnel capable of leading technology and management strategy—including intellectual property and standardization strategy—in preparation for the envisaged full-scale implementation of Beyond 5G in the 2030s. In FY2022, the second year of the program, younger corporate talent with executive potential (hereinafter referred to as "Leaders") got together across corporate boundaries to participate in workshops over a period of eight months, during which they considered a medium- to long-term political and management vision for Japan based on backcasting from the Beyond 5G era.
In this seminar, the Leaders will present their recommendations, summarizing the outcomes of their deliberations.
