February 22, 2023 Decision to Provide Subsidies for the Disaster Resistance Enhancement Project by Using Optical Cable TV to Establish New Daily Lives and the Regional Cable TV Network Development Project

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has today decided to provide subsidies to two entities under the Disaster Resistance Enhancement Project by Using Optical Cable TV to Establish New Daily Lives and to one entity under the Regional Cable TV Network Development Project.

1. Project overview

1. Disaster Resistance Enhancement Project by Using Optical Cable TV to Establish New Daily Lives

This project aims to partially subsidize expenses when such entities as municipalities and third-sector corporations develop optical cable television networks in order to ensure reliable and stable information transmission in times of disaster in local areas and to strengthen disaster resistance.
MIC made a public solicitation for this project from December 19, 2022 through January 13, 2023.

2. Regional Cable TV Network Development Project

This project aims to partially subsidize the maintenance costs for broadcasting and communications networks, which are essential regional means of information transmission in times of disaster, from the disaster prevention standpoint of avoiding interruptions to the flow of information due to the disconnection of broadcasting and communication networks.
MIC solicits proposals for the implementation of this project as needed.

2. Subsidy recipients

As a result of evaluation by external experts, MIC has today decided to grant subsidies to the following entities:

1. Disaster Resistance Enhancement Project by Using Optical Cable TV to Establish New Daily Lives based on the FY2022 second supplementary budget (2 entities)
