February 24, 2023 Implementation of Wide FM Public Awareness Campaign

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) supports the development of FM complementary relay stations for FM complementary broadcasting (wide FM) implemented by private broadcasters for fringe areas of AM radio broadcasts and disaster countermeasures. MIC will bolster public awareness during the Wide FM Public Awareness Campaign period from Friday, February 24 through Friday, March 31, 2023, with the catchphrase "Wide FM gives you peace of mind even when disaster strikes!"

1. Purpose

MIC has been supporting and promoting the development of FM complementary relay stations for FM complementary broadcasting (wide FM) by private broadcasters as a measure to address fringe areas of AM radio broadcasts (including measures focused on urban fringe areas and measure targeting geographical/topographic fringe areas) and also as a disaster countermeasure. There are plans to further expand the area covered by FM complementary broadcasting.
From Friday, February 24 through Friday, March 31, 2023, MIC will undertake intensive, focused public awareness activities under the slogan, "Wide FM Public Awareness Campaign: Wide FM gives you peace of mind even when disaster strikes!" The purpose of this campaign is to provide the public with a deeper understanding of the significance of FM complementary broadcasting (wide FM) and its benefits in the event of disaster, and also to encourage as many people as possible to listen to radio broadcasts.

2. Public awareness initiatives

MIC will implement the following initiatives under the catchphrase "Wide FM gives you peace of mind even when disaster strikes!"

  Putting up posters at various events and public facilities (from Friday, February 24)

  Uploading a video to MIC's YouTube channel (available from Wednesday, March 1)
