March 8, 2023 Approval of Certified Broadcasting Holding Company

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) submitted an inquiry today to the Radio Regulatory Council (chaired by SASASE Iwao, Professor Emeritus, Keio University) in response to an application from Kyushu Asahi Broadcasting Co., Ltd. for approval of a certified broadcasting holding company. MIC has received a report from the Council stating that approval as per the inquiry is appropriate. Accordingly, MIC will approve the application for the certified broadcasting holding company on April 1 this year.

1. Background and future plans

MIC has received an application from Kyushu Asahi Broadcasting Co., Ltd. (headed by WAKE Yasushi, President; hereinafter referred to as the "Applicant") for approval of a certified broadcasting holding company, and has also received an application from Kyushu Asahi Broadcasting Preparatory Corporation (headed by WAKE Yasushi, President) to succeed to the status of licensee in respect of the specified terrestrial basic broadcasting station belonging to the Applicant.
As matters concerning the approval of certified broadcasting holding companies must be referred to the Radio Regulatory Council, MIC submitted an inquiry about the application to the Council and received a report in response stating that approval as per the inquiry is appropriate.
Accordingly, MIC will approve the application for the certified broadcasting holding company on April 1 this year and give permission for succession to the status of licensee on the same date.
