March 15, 2023 Acceptance of License Applications for Basic Satellite Broadcasting on Right-Handed Circular Polarization Channels in the Broadcasting Satellite Services Band and Briefing for Prospective Applicants

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will accept license applications for basic satellite broadcasting on right-handed circular polarization channels in the Broadcasting Satellite Services band (ultra-high definition television broadcasting (4K broadcasts only)) from Wednesday, March 22 through Wednesday, May 31, 2023. MIC will also hold a briefing for prospective applicants on Wednesday, March 29, 2023.

(Applications submitted by postal mail must also arrive no later than the deadline)

Ultra-high definition television broadcasting (4K broadcasts only)

3. Target frequencies

Frequencies in the Broadcasting Satellite Services band (limited to radio wave frequency bandwidths on right-handed circular polarization channels) expected to become frequencies not used for basic satellite broadcasting (envisaged as sufficient for three broadcast programs of ultra-high definition television broadcasting (4K broadcasts only))

3. Future plans

Once the deadline for basic satellite broadcasting license applications has passed, MIC will conduct a screening process and submit an inquiry to the Radio Regulatory Council, and expects to issue licenses in the summer of 2023 or thereabouts.
