April 28, 2023 WiCON 2022―Announcement of Internal Affairs and Communications Minister’s Prize Winner

Last fiscal year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) held the KOSEN Wireless IoT CONtest 2022 (WiCON 2022). This contest aimed to develop young talent in the IoT field and promote the utilization and application of IoT technology while also attempting to use radio waves effectively. Recently, MIC selected the project with the best results at WiCON 2022 and decided to award the Internal Affairs and Communications Minister’s Prize. This project has also been recognized and announced publicly.

1. Overview

MIC held WiCON 2022 to develop young human resources in the IoT field and promote the utilization and application of IoT technology while ensuring the effective use of radio waves.

Recently, out of the 16 projects that conducted technology demonstrations at the contest, the project with the most outstanding results was selected as a result of an evaluation by a screening committee of experts (WiCON Technical Committee) that convened on Monday, March 6, 2023. Based on the results of the review by the experts, MIC has decided to award the Internal Affairs and Communications Minister’s Prize to the project that produced the most outstanding results.

2. Results of screening

The results of the screening by the WiCON Technical Committee (Chaired by MORIKAWA Hiroyuki, Professor, Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo) are as follows:

  • Internal Affairs and Communications Minister’s Prize (Best Award) Project title: Data Transmission Using Adjacent Digital Terrestrial TV Broadcasting Frequency Band for Door-to-Door Digital Signage

    Name of kosen (technical college): National Institute of Technology, Sendai College
