April 28, 2023 Acceptance of Applications for Re-licensing, etc., of Terrestrial Basic Broadcasting Stations

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will accept applications for re-licensing and licensing terrestrial basic broadcasting stations and the certification of terrestrial basic broadcasting operations from May 1, 2023.

1. Background

In principle, the term of validity of a terrestrial basic broadcasting station license is five years, and the current license expires on October 31, 2023. Therefore, the period of application stipulated in Article 18 of the Regulations for Procedures for Obtaining a Radio Station License (Radio Regulatory Commission Rules No. 15 of 1950) is the period of public notice by the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications stipulated in Article 6, Paragraph 8 of the Radio Act (Act No. 131 of 1950), and applications for re-licensing and licensing will be accepted (except for those listed in Article 6-4 of the Regulations for Enforcement of the Radio Act (Radio Regulatory Commission Rules No. 14 of 1950)). In addition, in accordance with Article 93, Paragraph 4 of the Broadcasting Act (Act No. 132 of 1950), applications for the certification of basic terrestrial broadcasting operations will be accepted during the same period.

3. Application manual and application form for re-licensing, etc.

The information will be posted on the portal site for providing information on licensing procedures for terrestrial basic broadcasting stations under MIC’s website. In addition, they can also be obtained at the places for submitting applications and contact points listed in the reference material.
