May 1, 2023 Signing of Memorandum of Cooperation in the fields of Information and Communications Technology and Postal Services between MIC and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of the Arab Republic of Egypt

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation　in the fields of information and communications technology and postal services between MIC and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

1. Background to the memorandum

Japan and the Arab Republic of Egypt (hereinafter referred to as “Egypt”) have been in discussions toward signing a Memorandum of Cooperation (hereinafter referred to as “MoC”) in the fields of information and telecommunications technology (ICT) and postal services to promote cooperation in these fields. The two countries have agreed to strengthen further cooperation in the fields of ICT and postal services. On the occasion of Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio’s visit to Egypt, Mr. OKA Hiroshi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Egypt, and His Excellency Dr. Amr S. Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology of Egypt, signed the MoC on April 30, 2023. The MoC was signed in the presence of Prime Minister KISHIDA and His Excellency Mr. Abdel Fattah Saeed Hussein Khalil El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

2. Outline of the memorandum

MIC and MCIT of Egypt have agreed to cooperate on broadband and 5G deployment, ICT-related solutions, cybersecurity, and the development of postal services.

3. Future direction

Based on memorandum, MIC will further promote cooperation between the two countries in the fields of ICT and postal services.
