May 26, 2023 Holding Briefing Sessions on Safe and Secure Radio Wave Use in Medical Institutions To be delivered on demand

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will provide Briefing Sessions on Safe and Secure Radio Wave Use in Medical Institutions through on demand to help medical personnel gain a better understanding of the importance of the safe and secure use of equipment that utilizes radio waves, such as medical telemetry.
This session will consist of presentations on basic radio wave use, essential for the safe and secure radio waves at medical institutions, trouble cases and countermeasures for equipment that uses radio waves, and advanced radio wave use at medical institutions. Participants can choose the topics according to their interests, and are cordially invited to attend.

  • Lecture 1: Basic Knowledge of Radio Wave Use in Medical Institutions (about one hour)
    Lecturer: Dr. KAWABE Manabu, Lecturer, School of Clinical Engineering, Faculty of Health and Medical Care, Saitama Medical University

    This lecture will introduce the key points of the revised version of “Guide for Safe and Secure Radio Wave Use in Medical Institutions” published by the Electromagnetic Compatibility Conference Japan (EMCC) and “Guidelines and Descriptions for Building Plan Considering the Use of Radio Wave Equipment on Medical Institutions―For Wireless Medical Telemetry Systems” published by Architectural Institute of Japan.

  • Lecture 2: Examples of Troubles Associated with the Use of Radio Waves and Countermeasures―Medical telemeters (about 30 minutes)
    Lecturer: Mr. YOSHIYAMA Junichi, Department of Clinical Engineering, Chuden Hospital, Chugoku Electric Power Co., Inc.

    This lecture introduces how to respond to radio wave problems and how to inspect medical telemeters used for monitoring electrocardiograms, etc., based on actual examples.

  • Lecture 3: Introduction of IoT Application Cases in the Medical Field (about 30 minutes)
    Lecturer: Mr. SAKAMOTO Yuji, General Manager, SMILE Unit, Office of the President, CARECOM Co., Ltd.

    This lecture introduces advanced initiatives, such as IoT-based hand hygiene monitoring systems and monitoring systems, aimed at reducing the management costs of medical devices.

Established in the Conference, the Radio-wave Utilization Promotion Committee for Medical Institutions conducts studies and surveys on safe radio wave usage in medical institutions. MIC actively contributes to this Committee.
