July 18, 2023 Technical Requirements for Broadcasting Systems
Report from the Information and Communications Council

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has received a report today from the Information and Communications Council (chaired by ENDO Nobuhiro, Executive Advisor of NEC Corporation) in response to Inquiry No. 2044, dated June 18, 2019, on technical requirements for broadcasting systems.

1. Overview

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) submitted an inquiry to the Information and Communications Council regarding the technical requirements for broadcasting systems (Inquiry No. 2044, dated June 18, 2019). This inquiry was made in an effort to make ultra-high-definition television broadcasting, which has been achieved through 4K/8K satellite broadcasting, feasible for terrestrial digital television broadcasting.
This matter has been under examination by the Broadcasting System Subcommittee (Chief Investigator: ITAMI Makoto, Professor, Department of Applied Electronics, Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology, Tokyo University of Science) under the Department on Information and Communications Technology of the Information and Communications Council. Today, the MIC has received a report from the Council.

3. Future plans

MIC plans to make institutional development based on this report.
