August 10, 2023 Signing of Memorandum of Cooperation for Open RAN with the National Telecommunications Agency of the Federative Republic of Brazil

On Wednesday, August 9, 2023 (Brazil time), the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on Open RAN in Brasilia with the National Telecommunications Agency of the Federative Republic of Brazil.

1. Background of the Memorandum of Cooperation for Open RAN

MIC has been in discussions with the National Telecommunications Agency of the Federal Republic of Brazil to sign the Memorandum of Cooperation (hereafter referred to as “MoC”) on the Open RAN to expand cooperation further in the Open RAN between the two countries.
The two countries have agreed to promote the following cooperation on the Open RAN and have signed the MoC.

2. Details of cooperation, etc., described in the MoC

• Information exchange on new technologies related to Open RAN expansion in Japan and Brazil
• Share knowledge on the benefits and evolution of the Open RAN, including greening, driving innovation, implementation in rural areas, etc.
• Cooperation between Japan and the Federative Republic of Brazil to promote the Open RAN in Latin American countries
• Promoting cooperation in developing the Open RAN with Japan, the Federative Republic of Brazil, and other countries worldwide that promote the Open RAN.
• Exchange of information and experience on public policies to promote open and secure mobile networks, including the Open RAN, such as testbeds, spectrum policies, and joint public-private initiatives
• Promotion of collaboration, cooperation, and coordination in the international arena, etc.
