September 12, 2023 Technical Requirements for Introducing Broadband Wireless LANs and Technical Requirements for the Use of Upgrading Wireless LAN Systems Partial report from the Information and Communications Council

1. Overview

Discussions are underway at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) to formulate IEEE 802.11be, the next wireless LAN standard, following the current IEEE 802.11ax. Introducing these new standards in Japan will enable new use cases for wireless LAN.
In light of this background, the Department on Information and Communications Technology under the Information and Communications Council has deliberated on the technical requirements for introducing broadband wireless LANs and technical requirements for the use of upgrading wireless LAN systems, and the Information and Communications Council issued a partial report today.

2. Future plans

Based on the partial report, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) plans to develop the Radio Act-related ministerial ordinance and other related regulations promptly.
