September 20, 2023 Status of Telecommunications Numbers in Use (FY2022)

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has published the summary of the status of telecommunications numbers in use as of FY 2022, as reported by telecommunications carriers under Article 8 of the Rules for Reporting on Telecommunications Business (Ministerial Ordinance of MPT No. 46 of 1988), in accordance with Article 10 of the same Ordinance.
Note: The status of telecommunications numbers in use refers to the numbers provided to subscribers by telecommunication carriers from the numbers designated by MIC to use.

1. Overview

  • “0AB-J” numbers for fixed-line phones: Approximately 55.44 million numbers (decreased by approximately 1.32 million from the previous year)
  • “050” numbers for IP phones: Approximately 9.67 million numbers (increased by approximately 0.23 million from the previous year)
  • “070/080/090” numbers for mobile phones and PHS: Approximately 184.14 million numbers (increased by approximately 1.56 million from the previous year)
  • Number of number portability for mobile phones and PHS: Approximately 9.6 million numbers (increased by approximately 1.52 million)

2. Key findings

  • Number of “0AB-J” in use for fixed-line phones has continues to decline, decreased by approximately 1.32 million (approximately 2.3%) from FY 2021.
  • Number of “050” in use for IP phones has been not so changed in recent years, increased by approximately 0.23 million (approximately 2.4%) from FY 2021.
  • Number of “070/080/090” in use for mobile phones and PHS has increased by approximately 1.56 million (approximately 0.9%) from FY 2021.
  • Number of Number portability for mobile phones and PHS has reached an all-time high, increased by approximately 1.52 million (approximately 18.8%) from FY 2021.
