November 12, 2024 The Results of the Solicitation for Opinions on the Draft Notice to Establish the Available Frequency Range, etc. for Specified Experimental Test Stations - Simplification of Procedures for Using Experimental Test Stations for Drones in the 5.8 GHz Band -

 In accordance with Article 7, Item 5 of the Regulations for Enforcement of the Radio Act (Radio Regulatory Commission Rules No. 14 of 1950), the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications is required to publicly announce the frequency range and other relevant details for specified experimental test stations. To promote the experimental operation of radio stations for drones in the 5.8 GHz frequency band, we have solicited opinions on a draft notice to establish the frequency range, etc. for specified experimental test stations, from Thursday, September 19, 2024, to Friday, October 18, 2024.
 As a result, 13 opinions were submitted. The opinions submitted along with the MIC's position on them were made available.

1. Background

 The Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications is required to publicly announce the frequencies for specified experimental test stations along with the corresponding areas and periods of use according to the provisions of Article 7, Item 5 of the Regulations for Enforcement of the Radio Act.
 Drone radio stations using the 5.8 GHz band are proliferating in the United States, European countries, and other countries. Japan is also expected to assign frequencies for international cooperation. To promote the experimental operation of 5.8 GHz band drone radio stations, we have solicited opinions on the draft notice to establish the available frequency range, etc. for specified experimental test stations. The opinion solicitation period was from Thursday, September 19, 2024, to Friday, October 18, 2024.

2. Future plans

 Based on the results, the MIC will promptly proceed with the establishment of the notice.
