November 12, 2024 Partial Report from the Information and Communications Council on Technical Requirements for Telecommunications Facilities Enabling Network Switchover to IP (hereinafter referred to as the “IP Technical Requirements”) - Future Directions for Maintaining and Quickly Restoring Telecommunications Services in the Event of a Large-Scale Disaster (hereinafter referred to as the “Future Directions”) -

 The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) today received a partial report from the Information and Communications Council, chaired by ENDO Nobuhiro, special advisor to NEC Corporation, regarding the Future Directions, which are part of the IP Technical Requirements (Consultation No. 2020, dated October 31, 2005).

1. Background

 Since November 2005, the IP Network Equipment Committee, chaired by AIDA Hitoshi, specially-appointed professor at the University of Tokyo, under the ICT Subcommittee of the Information and Communications Council has been studying the IP Technical Requirements. These requirements were part of Consultation No. 2020, submitted to the Information and Communications Council on October 31, 2005.
 The IP Network Equipment Committee reviewed the Future Directions from August to November 2024 and compiled a report. Subsequently, this matter was deliberated by the ICT Subcommittee, chaired by OIE Yuji, professor emeritus of the Kyushu Institute of Technology, which led to the partial report from the Information and Communications Council.

2. Future plans

 Based on this partial report, the MIC intends to promptly revise the relevant systems.
