November 21, 2024 FY2024 Central Emergency Communication Conference Seminar

The Central Emergency Communication Conference (chaired by YUMOTO Hironobu, Director-General of the Telecommunications Bureau of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC)) will hold a seminar to deepen people's understanding and knowledge of the smooth implementation of emergency communications.
1. Purpose
The Central and Regional Emergency Communication Conferences comprise approximately 2,200 parties involved in emergency communications, including relevant ministries and agencies, local governments, designated public institutions, and radio station licensees. Their main activity is to develop a communications system to ensure that information is transmitted quickly and accurately in an emergency.
Held since 1996, this seminar forms part of the efforts of the Emergency Communication Conferences, with this year marking the 25th time it has been held. At this seminar, representatives of Accenture Japan Ltd. and Mitsubishi Research Institute, Inc. will introduce their disaster prevention measures, including specific examples.
As this seminar will be held online, anyone interested can attend.

2. Event outline
Time and date: Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Venue: Online via a web conference system (to be held in a Webex Virtual Meeting Room)
Location: Online using a web conferencing system (scheduled to be held on Teams)
Target participants: Emergency Communications Council members and those who are interested in disaster prevention

- Lecture 1: "Support for the recovery of Noto Peninsula from earthquake disaster using Starlink and our current efforts"

In response to widespread communication failure caused by the Noto Peninsula earthquake, we used Starlink to provide support to the affected areas. I will introduce details of such support and what we have noticed at the site. I will also introduce current efforts for what we have noticed and services in the future.

Although there were some difficulties in securing and restoring the communications environment following the Noto Peninsula earthquake due to circumstances unique to the peninsula, new technologies such as satellite internet proved extremely useful. I will introduce new communications technologies using satellites, as well as future measures to ensure a communications environment for those affected and those involved in disaster response.
