December 6, 2024 Results of the Digital Academy in Collaboration with the World Bank

 From Monday, December 2, to Friday, December 6, 2024, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) organized the Digital Academy in collaboration with the World Bank.

1. Results of this event

(1) Background
 With the advancement of digitization in society and economy, information and communications technology (ICT) has become a vital and indispensable infrastructure. It is expected that particularly in developing countries ICT will be actively used to bridge digital divide and address social issues.
 In April 2023, the MIC and the World Bank signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) to cooperate on various initiatives, including the provision of human resource development programs for developing countries. Based on the MoC, the MIC and the World Bank jointly organized the Digital Academy.

(2) Overview of the event
 (a) Dates
   Monday, December 2, to Friday, December 6, 2024
 (b) Venue
   InterContinental Tokyo Bay (Minato City, Tokyo)
 (c) Participants
   Registration count of approximately 70 participants from 21 countries. They included government officials together with employees of domestic and foreign companies and organizations engaged in ICT and other fields in Asia, Pacific, Caucasus and Eastern Europe.
 (d) Main programs
   • Opening ceremony
   • Roundtables
   • Thematic sessions
   • Site Visit to ICT-related facilities
   • Presentations by participants
   • Closing ceremony

(3) Future direction
   We will continue to support capacity building for government officials in various countries in collaboration with international organizations such as the World Bank.

2. Overview of bilateral meeting

 In this opportunity, the Vice-Minister for International Affairs Takuo Imagawa held a bilateral meeting with the Vice President for Digital Transformation of the World Bank Sangbu Kim to deepen the dialogue on shared policy issues.
