February 13, 2024 Partial Report of the Information and Communications Council on Technical Requirements for 9-GHz Band Solid-state Radars for Small Vessels as Part of Technical Requirements for Maritime Radio Communications Equipment

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) received a partial report today from the Information and Communications Council (chaired by ENDO Nobuhiro, Executive Advisor of NEC Corporation) on the technical requirements for 9-GHzband solid-state radars for small vessels as part of Inquiry No. 50 dated April 23, 1990, on technical requirements for maritime radio communications equipment.

1. Overview

The Aviation and Maritime Radiocommunication Subcommittee under the Department on Information and Communications Technology under the Information and Communications Technology Subcommittee of the Information and Communications Council has, since May 2023, been studying the technical requirements for the 9-GHz band solid-state radars for small vessels as part of Inquiry No. 50 dated April 23, 1990, on technical requirements for maritime radio communications equipment addressed to the Telecommunications Technology Council for expanding the range of operation by non-qualified radio operators. In this connection, MIC received a partial report today from the Information and Communications Council.

2. Future plans

Based on this partial report, MIC plans to make relevant institutional amendments promptly.
