February 21, 2024 Aggregation and Provisional Calculation of Internet Traffic in Japan Announcement of traffic aggregation results for November 2023

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has compiled and now publishes the results of the traffic (data volume) survey conducted for Japan’s fixed broadband internet. In order to understand the actual traffic situation, the survey was carried out in November 2023 with the cooperation of Internet Service Providers (Note 1), Internet Exchanges (Note 2), and researchers (Note 3).

Main points
As of November 2023, the total download traffic for subscribers (Note 4) of Japan’s fixed broadband Internet service (Note 5) was estimated at approximately 34.5 Tbps (about 232.4 GB per contract per month (Note 6)), an increase of 18.1% from the volume of the same month of last year.
