February 26, 2024 Implementation of Wide FM Publicity Enhancement

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) supports the development of FM complementary relay stations for FM complementary broadcasting (wide FM) implemented by private broadcasters for fringe areas of AM radio broadcasts and disaster countermeasures.
MIC will reinforce public relations from Monday, February 26 through Friday, March 29, 2024, as a period of wide FM publicity enhancement, with the catchphrase “Wide FM in case of emergency!”

1. Purpose

MIC has been supporting and promoting the development of FM supplementary relay stations for FM complementary broadcasting (“wide FM”) by private radio broadcasters as countermeasures against fringe areas of AM radio broadcasts (urban fringe areas and geographical/topographic fringe areas) and disaster countermeasures. The reception area for FM complementary broadcasting is expected to expand further in the future.
MIC will intensify and focus on various public relations efforts from Monday, February 26 through Friday, March 29 this year as the wide FM public relations strengthening period with the catchphrase “Wide FM in case of emergency!” to deepen people’s understanding of the significance and benefits of FM complementary broadcasting (wide FM) during disasters and to enable as many people as possible to listen to radio broadcasts.

2. Public relations efforts

MIC will take the following initiatives under the catchphrase “Wide FM in case of emergency!”

(1) Posters at various events and public facilities (from Monday, February 26). See the attachment for the poster content.

(2) Posting of web videos on YouTube’s MIC Video Channel (from Friday, March 1)
