February 5, 2024 Result of Third ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting with Japan

On Friday, February 2, 2024, the third ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting with Japan* (ADGMIN+Japan) was held in Singapore. Mr. WATANABE Koichi, State Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, attended the meeting as the head of Japan's delegation and proposed the ASEAN-Japan Digital Work Plan 2024 on cooperation and collaboration measures between Japan and ASEAN in the ICT field over the next year, which was endorsed by the ASEAN side.

1. Meeting overview

The ADGMIN+Japan is the only ministerial-level meeting where ICT ministers from Japan and ASEAN Member States meet to decide on initiatives and cooperation in the ICT sector.
On Friday, February 2, 2024, the third ADGMIN+Japan was held in Singapore, and Mr. WATANABE attended the meeting from Japan side.

2. Summary of meeting results

Minister for Communications and Information of Singapore chaired the ADGMIN+Japan with Mr. Watanabe as the Co-Chair.
At the meeting, Mr. WATANABE proposed the ASEAN-Japan Digital Work Plan 2024 on cooperation and collaboration measures between Japan and ASEAN in the ICT field over the next year, which was endorsed by the participants.
Specifically, Japan shared its recognition of the importance of the outcomes of the “Hiroshima AI Process”, compiled in 2023, for the dissemination of the safe, secure, and reliable AI in the ASEAN region and explained the importance of promoting Open RAN as an open and secure 5G network, and introduced Japanese capacity building support initiatives in the cybersecurity field.
