February 6, 2024 Launch of a Website Introducing Literacy Content for Safer Internet Day

In conjunction with Safer Internet Day, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has collaborated with businesses and other organizations implementing initiatives related to ICT literacy to publish a webpage titled “Better Use of the Net & SNS: Creating the Future―A Project to Improve ICT Literacy,” summarizing the efforts by businesses and other entities aimed at enhancing ICT literacy.

Overview

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications established the Study Group on Improving Literacy for ICT Use (chaired by YAMAMOTO Tatsuhiko, professor at Graduate School of Law, Keio University) in November 2022 to examine ways to effectively utilize ICT literacy across various generations and formulate strategies and enhance literacy in the future digital society where the use of ICT will become commonplace.

Based on the results of discussions within this Study Group, the Roadmap for Improving Literacy for ICT Use (hereafter referred to as the “Roadmap”) was compiled in June 2023. This Roadmap highlights the need for effective collaboration and coordination among various stakeholders’ efforts to enhance ICT literacy, emphasizing the importance of facilitating cooperation and collaboration among these efforts to ensure broad and effective implementation.

Based on this, MIC collaborated with businesses and other entities implementing initiatives related to ICT literacy in conjunction with Safer Internet Day 2024 and has published a webpage titled “Better Use of the Net & SNS: Creating the Future―A Project to Improve ICT Literacy,” summarizing the efforts of these entities.

This webpage has organized the contents provided by various businesses and entities, targeting a wide range of age groups according to key keywords crucial for ICT utilization, presenting them in a user-friendly manner to facilitate easy learning for users.

Additionally, this webpage features short videos that teach how to address various issues such as disinformation and misinformation, explanations of key terms important for utilizing ICT, and content to test your ability to deal with problems encountered while using the Internet and social media. Please take a look.
