February 7, 2024 Holding Study Group on the Ideal State of Disclosing Accommodating Spatial Information, etc., to Facilitate Optical Fiber Development

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will hold the Study Group on the Ideal State of Disclosing Accommodating Spatial Information, etc., to Streamline Optical Fiber Development for the purpose of studying the ideal state of information disclosure of optical fiber and its accommodating space owned by utility companies and centralization of procedures for using such facilities.

1. Purpose

With the rapid increase in video traffic, cloud computing, and AI, the demand for data centers is growing rapidly worldwide, and coupled with future data demands, such as digital implementation in rural areas, the importance of data centers will continue to increase. There is an urgent need to develop optical fiber that enables high-speed, high-capacity data communications between multiple data centers. Under such circumstances, from the viewpoint of promoting the development of optical fiber in Japan, this study group will be held for the purpose of discussing how information on optical fiber and its accommodating space owned by utility companies should be disclosed and how the procedures for using such facilities should be centralized.

    Ideal state of the platform for disclosing optical fiber and accommodated spatial information

    Facilitation of procedures for the lease of optical fiber and accommodating space

    Other matters related to the above considerations

3. Schedule

The first meeting will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024, and subsequent meetings will be held sequentially after that.
