March 28, 2024 Calculation of Subsidies and Contributions under the Universal Service System for Broadband Services - Report from the Information and Communications Council -

 The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) today received a report on the “Calculation of Subsidies and Contributions under the Universal Service System for Broadband Services” (Consultation number 1236, dated July 7, 2023), from the Information and Communications Council (chaired by ENDO Nobuhiro, Executive Advisor, NEC Corporation).

1. Background

 On July 7, 2023, MIC consulted the Information and Communications Council regarding “Calculation of Subsidies and Contributions under the Universal Service System for Broadband Services,” and compiled a report based on the inquiry and deliberations by the Telecommunications Business Policy Committee of the same council, the Universal Service Policy Committee, and the Working Group for the Calculation of Subsidies and Contributions under the Universal Service System for Broadband Services, as well as the results of solicitation for opinions.

2. Future plans

 MIC will implement the necessary measures based on this report.
