March 29, 2024 Revision of “Guidelines on the Business Operation of the Subsidiary Companies of Japan Broadcasting Corporation” Involved by the Enforcement of the Act Partially Amending the Broadcasting Act

 The “Guidelines on the Business Operation of the Subsidiary Companies of Japan Broadcasting Corporation” was revised based on the results of solicitation for opinions on draft ministerial ordinances, etc., for Partial Amendments to the Regulations for Enforcement of the Broadcasting Act, etc., and report from the Radio Regulatory Council (Wednesday, February 7, 2024: Press release).

1. Background of revisions

 The “Act to Partially Amend the Broadcasting Act and the Radio Act” (Act No. 40 of 2023. Hereinafter referred to as the “Amendment Act”) promulgated on Friday, June 2, 2023 will be enforced on the date specified by a Cabinet Order within a period not exceeding 1 year from the date of promulgation. MIC, to prepare the related regulations for the enforcement of the Amendment Act, solicited opinions for 35 days from Friday, December 15, 2023 to Thursday, January 18, 2024 regarding the drafts of the “Ministerial Ordinance for Partial Amendments to the Regulations for Enforcement of the Broadcasting Act, etc.,” “Official Directive for Partial Amendment to the Examination Standards related to the Broadcasting Act,” “Official Directive for Partial Amendments to the Examination Standards related to the Radio Act ,” and “Guidelines on the Business Operation of the Subsidiary Companies of Japan Broadcasting Corporation.” The “Guidelines on the Business Operation of the Subsidiary Companies of Japan Broadcasting Corporation” has been revised in light of the above.
