The AI Seoul Summit was held in Seoul, the Republic of Korea on Tuesday, May 21 and Wednesday, May 22, 2024. The Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, Nishida, attended the Ministers’ Sessions held on Wednesday, May 22. These sessions were attended by governments, relevant international organizations, private companies, and researchers to discuss the development of safety, innovation, and inclusivity of AI.

3. Outline of the event
The AI Seoul Summit was co-hosted by Korea and the UK. Based on the outcomes of last year's AI Safety Summit in the UK, it aimed to promote global discussions on AI governance, including AI safety, and to explore pathways for sustainable AI development and use.
The Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, Nishida, attended the Ministers’ sessions on "Action to Strengthen AI Safety," and "Approach for Sustainability and Resilience," both held on Wednesday, May 22.
During the session "Action to Strengthen AI Safety," Mr. Nishida introduced the AI Safety Institute (AISI) of Japan, launched in February of this year. He stated that Japan AISI would collaborate with international partners to establish an interoperable AI risk assessment standard. Mr. Nishida also introduced that, as part of the country’s efforts to promote the initiative toward safe, secure, and trustworthy AI, Prime Minister Kishida had announced the progress of the Hiroshima AI Process Friends Group.
In the session "Approach for Sustainability and Resilience," potential solutions to energy and environmental threats, impacts on the labor market, and the massive generation of dis- and mis-information were discussed as part of global collaborative approaches to AI development.
As an outcome of this conference, the "Seoul Ministerial Statement for the Development of Safe, Innovative and Inclusive AI" was adopted by 27 countries and region.

4. Overview of the results of bilateral meeting
Making use of the opportunity brought Mr. Stefan Schnorr, State Secretary of the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport, Germany, to deepen the dialogue on policy issues shared by the two countries. These included the future development of Hiroshima AI Process and the outcomes of the AI Seoul Summit.
