June 21, 2024 Selection Results of FY2024 “Smart City Promotion Projects for Solving Community Issues”
Concerned ministries and agencies (the Cabinet Office, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT)) collaborated to publicly solicit projects related to smart cities for FY2024 from Friday, April 5 *1 through Friday, May 10, 2024, and 10 proposals were received for the “Smart City Promotion Projects for Solving Community Issues” program.
The “Joint Review Committee for Projects Related to Smart Cities”*2 evaluated the proposals, and MIC has selected eight projects for the FY2024 “Smart City Promotion Projects for Solving Community Issues.”
The related ministries and agencies will collaborate to provide robust support for smart city initiatives across various regions, ranging from advanced demonstration projects to smart city implementation.

An expert panel (Secretariat: Promotion of Science, Technology and Innovation Secretariat, Cabinet Office) established by related ministries and agencies (Cabinet Office, MIC, METI, and MLIT) to jointly solicit and evaluate proposals.
1. Overview
In addition to referring to the “Smart City Reference Architecture (White Paper) (Version 2),” which was revised based on the results of the “Survey and Consideration of Architecture, etc. for Realizing Smart City Concept Using Data Linkage Infrastructure” of the “Cross-Ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP) Phase 2: Big Data and AI-Enabled Cyberspace Technologies,” conducted by the Cabinet Office in FY2022, all related ministries and agencies collaborate on smart city-related projects for FY2024 under the agreement of the Smart City Task Force.
The MIC solicited proposals for “Smart City Promotion Projects for Solving Community Issues” (a project in which MIC subsidizes a portion of the costs of public entities, including local governments, for City OS development and improvement that satisfies the Smart City Reference Architecture and City OS-connected services, to solve various local issues and realize regional revitalization and development), which was one of the smart city-related projects for FY2024, from Friday, April 5 through Friday, May 10, 2024.
2. Details of decision
The following eight projects were selected based on the “Joint Review Committee for Projects Related to Smart Cities” evaluation results. An overview of each business is given in the Attachment.
