July 2, 2024 “Technical Requirements for New-Generation Mobile Communications Systems” Related to the Maritime Use of Local 5G
- Partial Report from the Information and Communications Council -

 The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) today received a partial report from the Information and Communications Council (chaired by ENDO Nobuhiro, Executive Advisor to NEC Corporation) on the "Technical Requirements for New-Generation Mobile Communications Systems" in Consultation No. 2038, dated October 12, 2016, that are related to the maritime use of local 5G.

1.Background

 Various entities can use local 5G, a fifth-generation mobile communications system, according to regional and individual needs. In particular, there is a growing need for local 5G applications in a maritime setting. In response, the Information and Communications Council considered technical requirements for maritime use and submitted a partial report today.

2. Future plans

 The MIC will promptly prepare related regulations based on the partial report.
