July 31, 2024 Authorization for Change in the NHK’s Articles of Incorporation
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) today sent an inquiry to the Radio Regulatory Council (chaired by SASASE Iwao, Professor Emeritus at Keio University) regarding an application from the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (also known as NHK, headed by President INABA Nobuo) for approval to amend the Articles of Incorporation of the Japan Broadcasting Corporation in accordance with Article 18, Paragraph 2 of the Broadcast Act (Act No. 132, 1950), and received a report stating that the approval is appropriate.
In response to this report, MIC will promptly approve this matter.
1. Overview of changes
The Act for Partial Amendments to the Broadcasting Act (Act No. 36 of 2024, hereafter referred to as the “Amended Act”) amended the provisions of the Broadcasting Act regarding the Japan Broadcasting Corporation. Accordingly, the Japan Broadcasting Corporation will amend its Articles of Incorporation in order to make the necessary institutional development, as shown in the attachment.
2. Date of enforcement
The date of enforcement of in Article 1, item 2 of the Supplementary Provisions to the Amending Act.
