August 30, 2024 Status of Telecommunications Numbers in Use (FY 2023)
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has published the summary of the status of telecommunications numbers in use as of FY 2023, as reported by telecommunications carriers under Article 8 of the Rules for Reporting on Telecommunications Business (Ministerial Ordinance of MPT No. 46 of 1988), in accordance with Article 10 of the same Ordinance.
- Note:
The status of telecommunications numbers in use refers to the numbers provided to subscribers by telecommunication carriers from the numbers designated by MIC to use.
1. Number of key telecommunications numbers in use
As of the end of 2023 (March 31, 2024)
- “0AB-J” numbers for fixed-line phones: Approximately 53.85 million numbers (decreased by approximately 1.59 million from the previous year)
- “050” numbers for IP phones: Approximately 9.73 million numbers (increased by approximately 70,000 from the previous year)
- “070/080/090” numbers for mobile phones and PHS: Approximately 187.83 million numbers (increased by approximately 3.69 million from the previous year)
From April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024
Number of number portability for mobile phones and PHS: Approximately 9.53 million numbers (decreased by approximately 70,000)
2. Key points
- The number of “0AB-J” in use for fixed-line phones continues to decline, decreasing by approximately 1.59 million (approximately 2.9%) from FY 2022.
- The number of “050” in use for IP phones has not changed in recent years, increased by approximately 70,000 (approximately 0.7%) from FY 2022.
- The number of “070/080/090” in use for mobile phones and PHS has increased by approximately 3.69 million (approximately 2.0%) from FY 2022.
- The number of number portability for mobile phones and PHS has decreased by approximately 70,000 (approximately 0.7%) from FY 2022.
