Publication of the Annual Report on Spectrum User Fees in FY2024
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has published the annual report on the administration and expenditure of spectrum user fees for FY2024.
Note: The published materials are in Japanese only.
Background
Under the spectrum user fee system, administrative work—including Illegal radio station monitoring —is carried out for spectrum users' common benefit (hereinafter the "Administrative Work"). The cost of the Administrative Work is borne by the licensees of radio stations, who benefit from radio usage, in proportion to their spectrum usage.
The Administrative Work is stipulated in Article 103-2, Paragraph 4 of the Radio Act (Act No. 131 of 1950). As radio wave usage expands, radio spectrum is expected to become increasingly scarce. Going forward, the role of the Administrative Work is anticipated to become increasingly important.
Under these circumstances, it is important to properly perform the Administrative Work. To this end, understanding of this work must be fostered among radio station licensees by announcing the status of the Administrative Work and its associated expenditures.
As stipulated in Article 103-3, Paragraphs 3 and 4 of the same Act, we will announce the status of the FY2024 Administrative Work and its associated expenditures, as well as the remaining amount of the fund specified in Article 103-2, Paragraph 4, Item 3 of the same Act.
