February 13, 2025 Partial Report from the Information and Communications Council regarding “Technical Requirements for Distribution Equipment as Stipulated in Article 20-3, Paragraph 1 of the Broadcasting Act”
Today, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) received a partial report from the Information and Communications Council (chaired by ENDO Nobuhiro, special advisor to NEC Corporation) on the “technical requirements for distribution equipment as stipulated in Article 20-3, Paragraph 1 of the Broadcasting Act” (Consultation No. 2047, dated July 2, 2024), specifically the "technical requirements for distribution equipment used for essential distribution."
1. Overview
MIC recently consulted the Information and Communications Council on the “technical requirements for distribution equipment as stipulated in Article 20-3, Paragraph 1 of the Broadcasting Act” (Consultation No. 2047, dated July 2, 2024) as it is necessary to examine measures to ensure the safety and reliability of distribution equipment and the level of quality of distribution by distribution equipment, etc.
This matter was discussed by the Broadcasting System Subcommittee under the Department on Information and Communications Technology of the Information and Communications Council (headed by Chief Investigator ITAMI Makoto, Professor, Department of Applied Electronics, Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology, Tokyo University of Science), and a partial report was submitted by the Council today.
2. Future plans
MIC plans to develop the relevant regulations based on this partial report.
