Status of Occurrence of Acts of Unauthorized Computer Access and Progress of Research and Development on Technology Relating to Access Control Features

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), the National Police Agency (NPA), and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) publicize the status of the occurrence of acts of unauthorized access and the progress of research and development on technology relating to access control features, pursuant to Article 10, paragraph 1 of the Act on Prohibition of Unauthorized Computer Access (Act No.128 of 1999).

1. Overview

 It is necessary to establish an environment that makes it difficult for unauthorized access to occur for the prevention of computer-related crimes via telecommunications lines and maintain telecommunications-order realized by means of access control features.
 Accordingly, MIC, NPA, and METI publish information on the status of the occurrence of acts of unauthorized computer access and the progress of research and development on technology relating to access control features, pursuant to Article 10, paragraph 1 of the Act on Prohibition of Unauthorized Computer Access*.

Article 10 (1) To help protect specified computers with an access control feature from acts of unauthorized computer access, the National Public Safety Commission, the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, and the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry are to publicize the status of the occurrence of acts of unauthorized computer access and the progress of research and development on technology relating to access control features at least once a year.
