March 26, 2025 Signing of Memorandum of Cooperation in the ICT Field between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and the Ministry of Communications of the Federal Republic of Brazil

　Mr. MURAKAMI Seiichiro, Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, has signed a memorandum of cooperation in the ICT field between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) and the Ministry of Communications of the Federal Republic of Brazil.

1. Background to the memorandum

　Since the Federative Republic of Brazil (hereinafter referred to as “Brazil”) decided to adopt the Japanese terrestrial digital television broadcasting system in 2006, MIC has been deepening its cooperative relationship with Brazil, mainly in the field of broadcasting, and in 2018, in order to develop this cooperative relationship and expand it to cooperation in the entire information and communications technology (hereinafter referred to as “ICT”) field, MIC and the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications (formerly the Ministry of Communications), the predecessor organization of Brazil's Ministry of Communications, signed a “Memorandum of Cooperation in the areas of Digital Terrestrial Television and Information and Communication Technology."
　Recently, Mr. MURAKAMI, Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, and Mr. Juscelino FILHO, Minister of Communications, agreed to further deepen cooperation between the two countries in the fields of ICT and digital inclusion, and on the occasion of the visit to Japan of President Luiz Inácio LULA DA SILVA of Brazil to commemorate the 130th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Brazil, the two ministers signed a new agreement to fully update the above memorandum of cooperation, and on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, it was announced that a new memorandum of cooperation had been concluded in the presence of both country's leaders.
