March 7, 2025 Results of the Solicitation for Opinions on the Draft Ministerial Ordinance Partially Amending the Radio Equipment Regulations (hereinafter referred to as the "Draft Ministerial Ordinance") and the Draft Directive Partially Amending the Examination Standards Related to the Radio Act (hereinafter referred to as the "Draft Directive"), as well as the Report from the Radio Regulatory Council on the Draft Ministerial Ordinance
- Institutional Enhancements to Technical Standards for X-band Coastal Surveillance Radars -

 To improve the technical standards for X-band coastal surveillance radars used to monitor vessels within ports, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) prepared the Draft Ministerial Ordinance and the Draft Directive. The MIC solicited opinions on these drafts from Tuesday, January 28, 2025, to Wednesday, February 26, 2025. However, no comments were received.
 The MIC consulted the Radio Regulatory Council, chaired by SASASE Iwao, professor emeritus of Keio University, regarding the appropriateness of the Draft Ministerial Ordinance. Today, the MIC received a report stating that the Draft Ministerial Ordinance is appropriate.

1. Overview

 The MIC received a partial report from the Information and Communications Council on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 regarding technical requirements for X-band coastal surveillance radars used to monitor vessels within ports. In response, the MIC prepared the Draft Ministerial Ordinance and the Draft Directive to improve the technical standards and other relevant documents for these radars. The MIC solicited opinions from Tuesday, January 28, 2025, to Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

2. The results of the opinion solicitation

 Comments were solicited from Tuesday, January 28, 2025, to Wednesday, February 26, 2025, but no comments were submitted.

3. Report from the Radio Regulatory Council

 Based on the results of the opinion solicitation, the MIC consulted the Radio Regulatory Council regarding the Draft Ministerial Ordinance. Today, the MIC received a report from the Council stating that the Draft Ministerial Ordinance is appropriate.

4. Future plans

 Based on the results of the public solicitation and the report, the MIC will promptly develop related regulations.
