April 10, 2025 Results of the Solicitation of Opinions on the Draft Ministerial Ordinance to Partially Amend the Radio Equipment Regulations and the Ordinance on Technical Standards Conformity Certification of Specified Radio Equipment (hereinafter referred to as the "Draft Ministerial Ordinance") and on the Related Notice, and the Report from the Radio Regulatory Council
To raise the upper limit of frequency band available for FM broadcasting from 95.0 MHz to 99.0 MHz, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) solicited opinions on the Draft Ministerial Ordinance and the draft amendment to the relevant notice. The solicitation period ran from Friday, December 20, 2024, to Monday, February 10, 2025. A total of 17 opinions were received.
Based on the results of the opinion solicitation, the MIC consulted the Radio Regulatory Council, chaired by SASASE Iwao, professor emeritus at Keio University, regarding the appropriateness of the Draft Ministerial Ordinance and the draft amendment to the relevant notice. Today, the MIC has received a report stating that the drafts are appropriate.
1. Results of the opinion solicitation
To raise the upper limit of frequency band available for FM broadcasting from 95.0 MHz to 99.0 MHz, the MIC prepared the Draft Ministerial Ordinance and the draft amendment to the relevant notice, and solicited opinions on them from Friday, December 20, 2024, to Monday, February 10, 2025.
2. Report from the Radio Regulatory Council
Based on the results of the opinion solicitation, the MIC consulted the Radio Regulatory Council the Draft Ministerial Ordinance and the draft notice to partially change of the Plan for the Available Frequencies Allocated for Core Broadcasting. Today, the MIC received a report that the drafts are appropriate.
3. Future plans
Based on the results of the public solicitation and the report, the MIC will promptly amend the relevant regulations.
