May 12, 2025 Results of Visit to the Republic of Singapore by Mr. KAWASAKI, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications
From Sunday, May 4 through Tuesday, May 6, 2025, Mr. KAWASAKI, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications visited the Republic of Singapore. He held meetings with government official and others and exchanged views with the aim of strengthening future cooperation in the field of ICT.
An outline of the results of his visit is as follows.
Mr. KAWASAKI held a meeting with Mdm Rahayu Mahzam, Minister of State, Ministry of Digital Development and Information. They exchanged views on further strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of ICT in preparation for the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Singapore in 2026.
At the meeting, they reaffirmed the close cooperation between the two countries and discussed cooperation in the fields of ICT including AI, countermeasures against dis/misinformation, submarine cables, cybersecurity, and quantum cryptographic communication, and confirmed to promote cooperation in international organizations.
Mr. KAWASAKI also visited the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), which is engaged in research and development of communication technologies including 5G/Open RAN, Beyond 5G, and non-terrestrial network (NTN), and attended the exchange ceremony of the memorandum of understanding to promote Beyond 5G signed between the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) and SUTD.
In addition, Mr. KAWASAKI held a meeting with leaders from Japanese companies operating in Singapore and visited a Japanese company promoting research and development using digital technology and open innovation.
