May 19, 2025 Survey on the Usage of 5th-Generation Mobile Communication Systems (herein after referred to as the "5G Systems") in the 26 GHz and 40 GHz Bands
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will conduct a survey on the needs for the usage of the 5G Systems in the 26 GHz and 40 GHz bands, from today until Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
1. Purpose and positioning
In response to growing demand for the 5G Systems, the MIC has been promoting initiatives to promote 5G deployment, including the gradual allocation of 5G frequency bands.
On Thursday, March 27, 2025, the New Generation Mobile Communications Systems Committee under the ICT Subcommittee of the Information and Communications Council drafted a report titled "Technical Requirements for 5G Systems in 26 GHz and 40 GHz bands." In response to the report, this survey will be conducted as a basic study to understand the needs for 5G usage in these frequency bands.
Responses to this survey are entirely voluntary; the content of the responses will not affect the respondents in any way, including the approval or disapproval of any applications they may submit in the future. Responding to this survey does not guarantee approval for frequency use.
2. Targets
Entities seeking to use 5G in the 26 GHz or 40 GHz band
3. Future plans
The MIC will compile and publish the results of this survey, and utilize them as a reference for future system enhancements.
