- Partial Report from the Information and Communications Council -

 Today, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) received a partial report from the Information and Communications Council, chaired by ENDO Nobuhiro, special advisor to NEC Corporation, on the "Technical Requirements for New Generation Mobile Communications Systems related to 5G in the 26 GHz and 40 GHz Bands" (Consultation No. 2038, dated October 12, 2016).

1. Background

 Mobile communications systems are indispensable to the lives of Japanese people and socioeconomic activities. To accommodate the continuous growth in data traffic and meet emerging usage needs, it is essential to secure additional frequency bands.
 In light of these circumstances, the Information and Communications Council has compiled technical requirements for 5G mobile communications systems in the 26 GHz and 40 GHz bands, and has submitted a partial report on these technical requirements to the MIC.

2. Future plans

 Based on the partial report, the MIC will promptly improve the related regulations.
