June 25, 2025 Results of the Kenya-Japan ICT Workshop
On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) held the "Kenya-Japan ICT Workshop" with the Ministry of Information, Communications and The Digital Economy of the Republic of Kenya (hereinafter referred to as "Kenyan Ministry").
1. Overview of the event
Date: Tuesday, June 24, 2025
Venue: Konza Technopolis, Kenya (near Nairobi)
Participants: (1) Japanese side: Eigo Nomura, Deputy Director-General of the Global Strategy Bureau, MIC; representatives from Japanese ICT companies; Japan ICT Fund (JICT); diplomatic personnel from the Embassy of Japan in Kenya; and other relevant individuals.
(2) Kenyan side: Principal Secretary John Kipchumba Tanui, Kenyan Ministry; Communications Authority of Kenya; Konza Technopolis officials; Kenyan ICT company officials; and other relevant individuals.
2. Main content
This workshop was conducted as an initiative based on the "Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation in the Field of Information and Communication Technology" concluded in February 2024 between the MIC and the Kenyan Ministry.
In the workshop, Japanese technologies and services in the field of ICT, including data centers, Open RAN, networks, and ICT solutions, were introduced to the Kenyan side, and opinions were exchanged on the possibility of future cooperation and collaboration. An opportunity was also provided for networking between the Japanese participants and representatives from the Kenyan Ministry as well as companies involved in the information and telecommunications sector.
Furthermore, the MIC and the Kenyan Ministry confirmed that they will continue to promote cooperation between the two countries based on the MoU, bearing in mind that TICAD 9 will be held in Yokohama in August this year.
