June 9, 2025 Results of the Visit to the French Republic by Mr. KAWASAKI Hideto, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications

 From Wednesday, June 4 to Thursday, June 5, 2025, Mr. KAWASAKI, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, visited the French Republic to attend the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting and held bilateral meetings with representatives from the Republic of Costa Rica and the OECD to exchange views on strengthening future cooperation in the ICT field.

An outline of the results of his visit is as follows.
 On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, Mr. KAWASAKI (Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications) and Dr. IMAGAWA (Vice-Minister for International Affairs) attended the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting, which was held in Paris, France.
 Mr. KAWASAKI stressed the importance of ensuring international interoperability in AI governance and highlighted the importance of promoting initiatives related to the Hiroshima AI Process, such as the Hiroshima AI Process Friends Group and the Reporting Framework. He also emphasized the importance of promoting and expanding the values of the OECD AI Principles, especially in outreach to Southeast Asia. In response, many other countries expressed their support for the Hiroshima AI Process and Japan's efforts.

 Mr. KAWASAKI also had a meeting with H.E. Ms. Paula Bogantes Zamora, Minister of Science, Innovation, Technology and Telecommunications of the Republic of Costa Rica, and exchanged views on further cooperation in the field of ICT, including AI governance. The two sides confirmed that Japan and Costa Rica will continue to work together to promote international interoperability in AI governance.

 In addition, Mr. KAWASAKI met with Mr. Yoshiki Takeuchi, Deputy Secretary-General of the OECD, to exchange views on further strengthening cooperation between Japan and the OECD in the ICT field. They confirmed that both parties will continue to enhance collaboration on AI governance initiatives such as the Hiroshima AI Process.

 Furthermore, Mr. KAWASAKI presented Ms. Audrey Plonk, Deputy Director of the OECD Directorate for Science, Technology and Innovation, with the Info-Communications Promotion Month commendations from the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications. He also exchanged opinions with companies operating in France involved in R&D of automated driving software and in data center operations.
