July 17, 2025 Authorization for Change in the NHK’s Articles of Incorporation

 The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) today sent an inquiry to the Radio Regulatory Council (chaired by SASASE Iwao, Professor Emeritus at Keio University) regarding an application from the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (also known as NHK, headed by President INABA Nobuo) for approval to amend the Articles of Incorporation of the Japan Broadcasting Corporation in accordance with Article 18, Paragraph 2 of the Broadcast Act (Act No. 132, 1950), and received a report stating that the approval is appropriate.
 In response to this report, MIC has decided to approve this matter effective today.

1. Overview of changes

 The Act to Partially Amend the Broadcasting Act (Act No. 36 of 2024) amended the provisions of the Broadcasting Act regarding the Japan Broadcasting Corporation. This act adds the distribution of NHK's broadcast programs and program-related information to essential operations of NHK. In response, changes to the NHK’s Articles of Incorporation will be made.
