August 22, 2025 Results of the 2023 Broadband Service Coverage Rate Survey in Japan

　The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) conducts an annual survey on broadband service coverage to further promote the expansion and development of information and telecommunications infrastructure.
The MIC compiled the results of the survey on household coverage of fiber-optic broadband services as of the end of March 2023 and will make them available.

1. Survey on broadband service coverage

　The MIC conducted a survey on broadband service areas. The survey targeted telecommunications carriers that provide broadband services to general subscribers using their own facilities, including carriers that lease facilities developed by local governments under IRU contracts to provide services. Based on the information obtained from these carriers, the MIC calculated broadband service coverage by dividing the estimated number of subscribing households in each area by the total number of households and rounding the result to two decimal places.
(Note) Since the method for estimating fiber-optic coverage was revised this fiscal year, the figures cannot be directly compared with those from previous broadband service coverage surveys.
Estimates are based on certain assumptions derived from information provided by telecommunications carriers and may contain errors.
Actual service availability may vary depending on the geographical conditions of the service area and the condition of equipment within the building.
