September 12, 2025 Publication of "Summary of the Study Team for the Enhancement and Strengthening of Measures for Maintaining and Securing Broadcasting Services in the Event of a Wide-Area Major Disaster" and the Results of Opinion Solicitation

　The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) solicited opinions from Friday, July 25, 2025, to Friday, August 8, 2025, on the "Draft Summary of the Study Team for the Enhancement and Strengthening of Measures for Maintaining and Securing Broadcasting Services in the Event of a Wide-Area Major Disaster," which was formulated by the "Study Team for the Enhancement and Strengthening of Measures for Maintaining and Securing Broadcasting Services in the Event of a Wide-Area Major Disaster" (chairperson: MITOMO Hitoshi, professor at the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies, Waseda University). In response, 34 opinions were submitted.
　Based on the results of this opinion solicitation, etc., the "Summary of the Study Team for the Enhancement and Strengthening of Measures for Maintaining and Securing Broadcasting Services in the Event of a Wide-Area Major Disaster" has been formulated and will be published, along with the results of the opinion solicitation.

1. Overview

　The MIC has held the "Study Team for the Enhancement and Strengthening of Measures for Maintaining and Securing Broadcasting Services in the Event of a Wide-Area Major Disaster" since Wednesday, February 5, 2025, to continually discuss measures to maintain broadcasting services in the event of wide-area major disasters, to secure alternative means of broadcasting when local stations stop broadcasting, and to ensure the viewing environment for disaster victims, etc.
　The team formulated the "Draft Summary of the Study Team for the Enhancement and Strengthening of Measures for Maintaining and Securing Broadcasting Services in the Event of a Wide-Area Major Disaster." The MIC solicited opinions on this draft summary from Friday, July 25, through Friday, August 8, 2025, and 34 opinions were submitted.
　Based on the results of the opinion solicitation, etc., the "Summary of the Study Team for the Enhancement and Strengthening of Measures for Maintaining and Securing Broadcasting Services in the Event of a Wide-Area Major Disaster" has been formulated and published, along with the results of the opinion solicitation.
