September 19, 2025 Results of the Election for the Director General of the International Bureau of the Universal Postal Union (UPU)
The 28th Universal Postal Congress was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from September 8 to 19, 2025. During the Congress, the election for the next Director General of the International Bureau of the UPU took place on September 18 (local time), and a Japanese candidate, the incumbent Director General Mr. METOKI Masahiko, was re-elected.

1. Election results
With no other candidates for the election of the Director General of the International Bureau of the UPU, Mr. METOKI was re-elected by acclamation from the member countries participating in the Congress.
2. Future initiatives
Mr. METOKI will begin his second term as UPU Director General in January 2026 (one term is four years, with a maximum of two terms). During his second mandate, which will end in December 2029, he is expected to continue leading various initiatives and reforms—such as strengthening UPU’s function and its financial reform—by leveraging his expertise and extensive experience in the international postal sector.
Japan will continue to actively support Mr. METOKI’s leadership and contribute to the development of international postal services under the UPU.
